Explora FAQs

What does the Explora Ultra do that an HD decoder does not?
It records, pauses live TV, and has streaming built in, so Showmax and Catch Up run on the same box. If you only ever watch live TV on one screen, an HD decoder is enough.
Does the Explora need internet?
For live satellite channels, no. For Catch Up, Showmax and on-demand content, yes. We can connect it by cable or WiFi and check it actually holds the connection where the decoder sits.
Do I need a different dish or LNB?
The dish is usually fine. Some setups need a Smart LNB, particularly when you are linking decoders. We check what you have before recommending anything.
Is the internet good enough for streaming in Betty's Bay?
In most of Betty's Bay yes, but it varies by street and provider. If your connection is marginal, we would rather set expectations honestly than have you buy a decoder for features you cannot use.
Can the Explora be the primary decoder for XtraView?
Yes, that is the normal setup. The Explora runs as primary with an HD decoder as secondary in another room.
Will my recordings survive a decoder swap?
No. Recordings live on the decoder's own drive, so they do not transfer. Worth knowing before you upgrade.
