Quick answer: At the time of writing (October 2026), DStv packages prices Betty's Bay homes pay run from R30 a month for EasyView to R979 a month for Premium on a decoder without a contract. Starter is R150, Select is R339, Sports is R399 and Movies & Series is R500 on a decoder. Most Betty's Bay homes are best served by Select or Sports, with Premium only worth it if you watch Springbok rugby or Formula 1 every week.
Your DStv debit order went off this month and the number did not match what you expected. If you are trying to make sense of DStv packages prices Betty's Bay households are paying in October 2026, you are not alone. DStv renamed most of its packages in September, and the change caught many people by surprise.
This guide works through the problem the way we would at your kitchen table. First, why the prices look confusing. Then, why your own bill may differ from the advert. Then, which package actually fits the way you watch, and when it makes sense to call us.
From 17 September 2026, DStv moved to a new line-up of packages. Some old names disappeared overnight, and most people only noticed when their bill or their channel list changed.

These are the questions we hear most in Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and Kleinmond. Where did Compact go? Why does the website show one price and my account another? Do I need a new decoder? The short answers are: it was renamed, you may be on a different billing option, and no, your decoder still works.
DStv says customers were moved across automatically, with no action needed and no price increase on migration. Here is how the old names map to the new ones:
You can read the full change list in DStv's own guide to the new DStv packages.
Most of the confused calls we get have the same few causes. Check these before you assume you are being overcharged.
The low "from" prices in adverts are often the DStv Stream price, which is internet only. On a satellite decoder, Starter and Select cost more than their Stream versions. If you watch through a dish on the roof, use the decoder column in the table below.

Premium on a decoder is R979 a month with no contract. Sign a 24-month contract and DStv advertises it at R799. That is a real saving, but you lose the freedom to drop down in the quiet months.
DStv lists an access fee of R125 a month for the Explora and Explora Ultra, at the time of writing. XtraView lets you link up to three decoders on one subscription, but it also needs access fees. These sit on top of your package price, so a "R399 package" can easily become a bigger debit order.
If you signed up on a special, the discount may have run out. The bill then jumps even though the package price did not change. Check the line items in MyDStv to see exactly what you are paying for.
These are DStv's own advertised prices at the time of writing (October 2026). Always confirm on your MyDStv account before you switch, as offers change.
| Package | Channels | Decoder price | Stream price | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EasyView | 30+ | R30 | Not offered | Keeping a decoder active cheaply |
| Starter (was Access) | 85+ | R150 | R99 | News, local shows, light viewing |
| Select (was Family) | 100+ | R339 | R299 | Families, kids' channels, PSL |
| Sports (was Compact) | 115+ | R399 | R399 | Football, cricket, URC, Currie Cup |
| Movies & Series | 115+ | R500 | R500 | Film and series fans |
| Premium | 130+ | R979, or R799 on 24 months | R799 | Springbok rugby, F1, golf, tennis |
Compact Plus customers stay on their existing package and price, so check your own account for that figure. Remember that these prices cover channels only. A dish, decoder or installation is a separate, once-off cost.
Local tip: Many Hangklip and Rooi Els homes sit empty for weeks at a time. Some owners drop to EasyView between visits and move back up the week before they arrive. Do the upgrade a few days early, so the decoder has time to pick up the new channels before the family walks in.
The right package depends less on price and more on who is in the house and what they actually watch. Here is how we usually advise people along the Overberg coast.

If the house is used over long weekends and the December season, paying for Premium all year rarely makes sense. Sit on EasyView or Starter while you are away, then upgrade for the weeks you are home. Our holiday home DStv checklist covers the other things to test before guests arrive.
For a family living here year round, Select is the sweet spot. It has the kids' channels, general entertainment and the PSL channel. If someone in the house follows the Premier League or Champions League, step up to Sports.
Sports now carries every Premier League match, the Champions League, the PSL, expanded cricket, the Currie Cup and a weekly URC match. Springbok tests, international rugby, Formula 1, golf and tennis are Premium only. If the Boks are the main reason you pay for DStv, Premium is the package for you.
A guesthouse in Betty's Bay or Kleinmond needs a different setup from a home. Each room usually needs its own viewing point, and the cabling has to be planned around the building. Read our notes on multi-room viewing for guesthouses before you choose.
Not sure your setup matches your package?
Tell us how many TVs you have and what you like to watch. We will tell you honestly whether your dish and decoder are up to it, before you pay for anything.
A lower bill does not have to mean a worse viewing experience. These small changes save the most money in the homes we visit:
If you are thinking about recording and catch-up, look at the hardware cost too. We break down Explora and Explora Ultra prices separately, so you can see the full picture.
You do not need a technician to change packages. You can do it yourself in a few minutes:
Keep the confirmation message, then check your next debit order. If the amount is still wrong, contact DStv directly, as only they can adjust your account.
Sometimes people change packages to fix a problem that the package cannot fix. Paying for Premium will not help if the picture keeps breaking up.

These signs point to your installation, not your subscription:
For homes without a working dish, our new DStv installation service covers the dish, Smart LNB, sealed cabling and activation in one visit.
If you are moving up to recording and catch-up, we handle full DStv Explora installation and XtraView linking.
We work across Silver Sands, Pringle Bay, Rooi Els and Kleinmond, so travel is rarely a problem. If you want a proper look at your setup, our Betty's Bay DStv installers can check the signal with a meter and tell you what is worth fixing.
A well-aligned dish and sealed cabling make every package look better. Good DStv installation in Betty's Bay means fewer callouts after every storm.

Yes. You can change your package in the MyDStv app, on the DStv website or through customer care. Leave your decoder on and tuned to a channel so the change reaches it.
No. The package price covers channels only. DStv lists a separate access fee of R125 a month for the Explora and Explora Ultra, and XtraView also needs access fees.
Most part-time owners sit on EasyView or Starter while the house is empty. They upgrade a few days before they arrive and drop down again when they leave. This keeps the decoder active without paying for months nobody is watching.
No. Every new package works on your existing decoder, dish and cabling. You only need new hardware if you want features like recording, or if your current setup is faulty.
