Running a guesthouse, café or small office on this stretch of coast and want TV on the walls? You'll need one of the DStv Business packages, not a normal home subscription. Here's what really happens, from the first phone call to the first match playing in your lounge or bar.
Quick answer: DStv Business packages are signed directly with MultiChoice, and the package depends on your venue type: rooms, public areas or offices. You apply, MultiChoice opens the account, we survey and install the dish and cabling, then the service is switched on. Billing starts once the install is done and the channels are live.
We do this work in Betty's Bay and along the coast to Pringle Bay, Rooi-Els and Kleinmond. Business jobs here have their own quirks, like buildings closed for weeks, strong wind and long cable runs, and this guide walks you through each stage. Accommodation owners may also like our notes on guesthouse multi-room viewing.
It's tempting to plug a home decoder into the TV at reception and call it done. DStv's own business brochure says the only legal way to show its programming on business premises in South Africa is a valid DStv Business subscriber agreement from MultiChoice.
That's why DStv commercial packages exist, and they cover more places than people expect. A B&B lounge, a restaurant screen, a waiting room and a staff canteen all count. If you're not sure your venue needs it, the DStv Business site explains the venue types, and we're happy to talk it through with you.
DStv sorts its commercial packages by the kind of venue, not by the size of the TV. The right group depends on where people will be watching and who they are.
| Type of venue | How the viewing works | What it means for the install |
|---|---|---|
| Guesthouse, B&B, self-catering units | In-room viewing for guests | A decoder or feed per room, neat cable runs to each unit |
| Restaurant, pub, coffee shop | Public viewing in shared areas | Screens placed for the crowd, often one big sports screen |
| Office, reception, clinic waiting area | Viewing in work or waiting spaces | Usually one or two screens and a tidy wall mount |
| Mixed venue, e.g. lodge with a bar | Rooms plus a public area | May need more than one package and a split cable plan |
A DStv office setup is often the simplest job of the lot. A guesthouse with eight rooms on a fynbos slope takes far more planning, so we look at it on site before we quote.
The subscription itself is between you and MultiChoice. Our part is the hardware, the signal and the cabling. Here's the usual order of things.
Good to know: If your venue has many rooms on one shared dish, it starts to look like a complex install. Our communal DStv systems page explains how one dish can feed a whole block.
On the day, we work through the building one step at a time. We test as we go, so problems show up before the ceilings are closed and the furniture goes back.
DStv's satellite sits high in the north-east sky from the Western Cape. Parts of Betty's Bay sit right under the mountain, and the slope can block that view on some plots. We find a spot with a clear line of sight before we drill a single hole.

A bar screen and six guest rooms means a lot of cable. We plan routes that stay out of sight, avoid wet walls and keep the runs as short as the building allows. Long runs on bigger properties near Silver Sands or Palmiet need good quality cable so the signal arrives strong at every TV.
Each decoder is set up, paired to the account and tested on its own screen. Where a client wants screens on the wall, we do the TV wall mounting at the same visit, which saves a second trip over the pass.
The south-easter here is strong enough to nudge a poorly fixed dish out of line. We use solid brackets, fix them into sound brickwork and check the alignment on a signal meter. Our post on the south-easter and your dish explains why that matters.
Salt air eats cheap fittings. We weatherproof every connector and choose brackets that cope with the sea air, as covered in our guide to salt air corrosion. Many venues around Hangklip close for part of the year, so the system has to work first time when you open again.
Safety first: Please don't send staff onto the roof to adjust a dish or chase a cable. Roofs here are often steep and the wind can gust without warning. Leave ladders and roof work to a trained technician.
There are two parts to the cost. The monthly fee goes to MultiChoice and depends on the package and the number of TVs. The installation is a once-off cost paid to us.
For current monthly fees, check the DStv Business site or ask MultiChoice when you apply, as they can change. For our side, a simple single-screen install usually budgets from around R850 to R1,400 at the time of writing. Bigger jobs with several rooms, long cable runs or tricky roofs often run from around R1,500 to R2,400 or more, so ask our team for a current quote.
These things change the installation price most:
We quote first, before we drive out. You'll always know what the job costs before we start.
A little prep on your side makes the day go faster. Run through this list before our visit.
Many venues use the visit to sort out other things too. Guest WiFi is a common ask, and we handle WiFi and network installation as well. Some owners also add CCTV cameras to watch the premises while it's quiet.
If you run a guesthouse, bar or office and want DStv done properly, we're happy to help. Our commercial DStv installation team handles venues of every size, and we work with the DStv installers in Betty's Bay you'll see on our site.

The monthly fee is set by MultiChoice and depends on the package group and how many TVs you run. Prices change from time to time, so check the DStv Business website or ask MultiChoice when you apply. Installation is a separate once-off cost, and we quote that before any work starts.
No. DStv says the only legal way to show its channels on business premises is a valid DStv Business subscriber agreement with MultiChoice. A home subscription is meant for private homes only, so a venue that shows DStv to guests or customers needs a business account.
It depends on the package group. In-room packages for guesthouses carry different channels from the ones made for public screens in bars and restaurants. MultiChoice updates the channel lists, so check the latest list on the DStv Business site before you choose.
Yes. We install for guesthouses, restaurants, offices and lodges in Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay, Rooi-Els, Kleinmond and nearby. We visit first, check the view of the sky and the cable routes, and then give you a quote.
A small office or a single bar screen is often finished in one visit. A guesthouse with many rooms, long cable runs or a hard roof can take longer. We give you a time estimate with your quote so you can plan around guests.
